What makes a good driving school?
Our Classroom
Instructors are both WA State OSPI certified public school teachers with
endorsements in Traffic Safety Education and DOL Certified.
They have had at least 12 quarter credits at the college level of
Traffic Safety Education, with continuing education requirements (classes to
keep up to date). They have been taught how
to educate students.
Private
Driver Training School
Instructors are only required to do a course of observation 100 hours in length
which includes instruction in classroom and behind-the wheel teaching methods
and supervised practice of behind-the wheel teaching and techniques. They have not been taught at the collegiate level on how to
properly educate students. (RCW 46.82.330, (2) (d).
What would
make a good classroom instructor—someone who has been trained, at the college
level, to teach students. That
is Alexis!
We use the
Drive Right, 9th Ed, text book that has been used in many Public
High Schools throughout the US,
as well as the WA State Driver’s Guide.
The Driver’s guide states the ‘Rules of the Road’, but does not include
everything a driver needs to know to be a safe and defensive driver.
We provide
Student Activities to keep them engaged in the learning process and assist in
different learning styles.
We provide
videos—with discussion—to enhance the students learning.
We bring in
guest speakers:
1. Thurston
County Coroner (Deputy)
We teach a
session on Automotive Maintenance.
(Instructor has over 21 years US Army Automotive Maintenance
Experience).
We cover
about one chapter per class session, after every 3 chapters we have a unit
assessment. The first two unit tests are
50 questions, Multiple Choice, The second two test are
40 M/C questions. The student must score
70% on those assessments. The Final Exam
is 90 questions M/C and the student must score 80% to pass. There are also 3 quizzes the student must
score at least 80% to pass.
